As an EcoCupid Volunteer, you’ll play a key role in documenting and amplifying inspiring eco-projects across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Choose from five exciting roles—EcoHeroes Scout, Storyteller, Content Creator, Graphic Designer, or Assistant Editor—and gain hands-on experience in media, writing, design, and environmental advocacy.

Connecting, Discovering, and Representing EcoCupid in the Field

Position Overview

EcoCupid’s Eco-Heroes Scouts are our front-line connectors—the individuals who actively seek out and engage with environmental projects, organisations, and initiatives in their local regions. They act as the bridge between grassroots eco-initiatives and EcoCupid’s storytelling team, ensuring that impactful projects gain visibility. Beyond scouting, they also serve as the face of EcoCupid in events, maintain relationships with featured projects, and collect key data for impact assessment.

This is a role for outgoing, social, and proactive individuals who love meeting new people, initiating conversations, and representing an organisation with confidence and enthusiasm.

Key Responsibilities

1. Scouting and Outreach

  • Identify and research promising eco-projects within your country/region that align with EcoCupid’s storytelling metrics.
  • Cold-call and cold-email organisations, project leaders, and potential partners to introduce them to EcoCupid.
  • Assess projects based on internal evaluation criteria to determine if they should be featured as articles, infographics, or social media content.
  • Populate databases (spreadsheets, Airtable, and website archives) with detailed, structured project information.

2. Relationship Management

  • Maintain ongoing contact with eco-projects before and after they are featured on EcoCupid.
  • Follow up with past projects to collect monitoring and evaluation data, ensuring that EcoCupid’s platform is making an impact.
  • Act as a point of contact for projects that require guidance on how to engage with EcoCupid.

3. Representation and Advocacy

  • Serve as EcoCupid’s representative at events, networking sessions, and community activities when core team members are unavailable.
  • Introduce and promote EcoCupid’s work to external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and professionalism in all engagements.
  • Help local eco-projects translate (from local languages) into English and vice versa, making their stories accessible to an international audience.

Bringing Eco-Stories to Life Through Writing & Multimedia

Position Overview

EcoCupid’s Storytellers are more than just article writers—they are the creative minds that craft compelling, human-centred narratives about environmental changemakers. They turn raw information into inspiring feature stories that amplify the voices of eco-projects and drive engagement.

Storytellers interview project leaders, capture multimedia (photos, videos, or audio recordings), and write feature stories that are shared across EcoCupid’s platforms. Their work ensures that every eco-project has a voice and reaches a wider audience.

This role is perfect for individuals who have a passion for storytelling, strong writing skills, an interest in journalism, and an ability to find unique, engaging angles in every story.

Key Responsibilities

1. Research & Interviewing

  • Select eco-projects from the Airtable database or nominate new ones (in which case, input project details like an EcoHeroes Scout).
  • Reach out to eco-projects professionally to arrange interviews.
  • Craft and adapt interview questions to find compelling, human-centred angles in the story.
  • Conduct interviews (in person or virtually), ensuring clear audio recordings for accuracy.

2. Writing & Multimedia Collection

  • Transcribe key insights from interviews and transform them into engaging feature articles.
  • Maintain strong ethical and professional writing standards, including appropriate use of AI-assisted writing tools.
  • Capture relevant photos and videos during interviews (or request high-quality images from eco-projects).
  • Ensure stories are well-researched, fact-checked, and adhere to EcoCupid’s storytelling guidelines.

3. Editorial & Publication Process

  • Submit draft articles to the editing team for feedback and revisions.
  • Work collaboratively with editors to refine the final story.
  • Share the reviewed article with the eco-project for final approval before publication.
  • Once approved, pass the completed article and accompanying multimedia to the graphics and website teams for posting.

Position Overview

EcoCupid’s Content Creators are the creative force behind our social media presence, ensuring that eco-projects and sustainability campaigns are engagingly and strategically showcased. This role is a broad umbrella covering three key types of content creation:

1️⃣ LinkedIn Content Creation – Establishing EcoCupid as a thought leader in environmental media and Southeast Asia’s eco-community.
2️⃣ EcoHeroes Content Creation – Producing infographic-based social media content about eco-projects that do not require full-length feature stories.
3️⃣ Campaign-Based Content Creation – Designing high-impact promotional content for campaigns, including event announcements, deadlines, countdowns, and awards.

2. EcoHeroes Content Creation (Infographic & Short-Form Content)

  • Work with EcoHeroes Scouts to develop concise and engaging social media content for eco-projects that do not require full feature articles.
  • Draft social media captions and infographic text that simplify complex environmental topics for a broader audience.
  • Submit content drafts to editors and graphic designers for final production.
  • Obtain approval from featured eco-projects before publishing.
  • Hand over finalised content to the social media manager for scheduling and posting.

3. Campaign-Based Content Creation

  • Develop content strategies for high-impact environmental campaigns, competitions, and events.
  • Work closely with the social media manager to create content plans and calendars.
  • Produce a mix of announcement posts, countdowns, deadlines, and event promotions.
  • Research and gather inspiration to keep campaign content fresh, engaging, and aligned with trends.
  • Ensure timely execution of all campaign-related content.

EcoCupid’s Graphic Designers play a key role in transforming environmental stories and eco-projects into visually engaging, shareable content. They primarily design infographics based on eco-projects selected by the Content Creators and Storytellers, ensuring that sustainability messages are both informative and eye-catching. In addition, they work on campaign visuals, reports, presentation decks, banners, posters, and other artistic content that support EcoCupid’s mission.

This role is ideal for creative, adaptable, and detail-oriented individuals who have strong design skills, enjoy working in teams, and are passionate about using visuals to support environmental causes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Infographic & Visual Content Creation

  • Design infographics for eco-projects selected by the Content Creators and Storytellers.
  • Create campaign-related infographics based on specific instructions from the campaign team.
  • Ensure all graphics align with EcoCupid’s visual identity and storytelling style.
  • Adjust designs based on editorial feedback and approvals before final publishing.

2. Campaign & Event Design

EcoCupid’s Assistant Editors are the backbone of content refinement, ensuring that every piece of writing—whether a feature article, social media post, or campaign copy—meets high editorial standards before publication. Working closely with the Lead Editor, they review, edit, and polish all written content while also managing workflow by chasing deadlines and keeping content creators on track.

This role is perfect for detail-oriented, laser-focused individuals with strong English skills, an editorial eye, and a proactive approach to managing deadlines. It also provides a great opportunity to develop interpersonal and negotiation skills by collaborating with writers and content creators to shape compelling stories.

Key Responsibilities

1. Editorial Review & Content Quality Control

  • Edit and refine feature articles, social media posts, and campaign content for clarity, coherence, and impact.
  • Ensure all written content aligns with EcoCupid’s style guide, tone, and house rules.

Check our website or social media for open volunteer positions. Each role has specific skills, qualifications, and timelines, so be sure to find one that suits you.

2. Review the Requirements

Before applying, make sure:
✔ You have the relevant skills and qualifications for the position.
✔ You align with EcoCupid’s key values and qualities.
✔ You are available during the campaign period.

All roles require you to submit a CV. Some roles may require you to submit a portfolio showcasing your past work.

3. Submit Your Application

Fill in the Google Form provided in the volunteer announcement. You will need to answer a few questions (see below), but don’t worry—we will share them in advance so you can prepare.

4. Wait for the Results (Processing Time: Up to 1 Week After Deadline)

Once applications close, our team will take up to one week to review and shortlist candidates.

5. Attend an Online Interview (Verbal, in English)

If shortlisted, you will be invited for an online verbal interview in English, where we will ask additional questions before making a final decision.

6. Onboarding & Induction

Successful applicants will go through an online induction session to familiarise themselves with their role and meet the EcoCupid team. Depending on the campaign, we may also invite you to an in-person meet-up on a case-by-case basis.
